Privacy Policy

Effective September 6, 2026

The short version: On the Map collects no data. Not "minimal data" — none. There is no account, no server, and no analytics. Everything you put into the app stays on your device.

What we collect

Nothing. On the Map has no user accounts, no sign-up, and no backend server. The contacts, notes, photos, places, dates, and voice input you add to the app are stored only in the app's local database on your device. They are never transmitted to us, and we have no way to access them. The app contains no analytics, no crash-reporting SDKs, no advertising, and no third-party trackers.

Device permissions

The app asks only for the permissions needed for features you choose to use: the microphone and speech recognition for voice capture, location when you pin where you met someone, and your photo library when you attach a photo. Voice input is handled by Apple's speech recognition on your device under Apple's own privacy practices; On the Map itself transmits nothing. Declining any permission simply disables that feature — the rest of the app works normally.

If you turn on “Catch the people you add elsewhere”

This is an option in Settings, off unless you switch it on. With it on, the app keeps a rough record of where your phone has been — about one point every couple of blocks — on your phone only. It's used for one thing: when you save someone in Phone or Messages instead of in the app, the app can tell you where you were at the time and offer to put them on the map. It is never uploaded, it is deleted after two weeks, and turning the option off deletes it at once. phone will ask you to allow location “Always” (Android: “Allow all the time”) for this; you can change that in Settings at any time.

Backups

You can export a backup file of your data at any time. That file is created on your device and goes only where you send it. You are in charge of where backups live — we never see them. Because all data is on-device, deleting the app deletes your data; keeping an exported backup is the way to protect against that.

Purchases

The optional one-time purchase ("the Legend") is processed entirely by Apple through the App Store or Google Play. We do not receive your name, payment details, or any personal information from the transaction.

Children

On the Map is not directed at children, and since it collects no data from anyone, it collects no data from children.

Changes

If this policy ever changes, the new version will be posted at this address with a new effective date. Given the architecture — no account, no server — there is very little that could change.
